High-Precision Lighting for the Future of Tech
Tesla’s state-of-the-art facility in Nunawading, Victoria, represents a shift in automotive retail—blending a high-end consumer experience with a world-class technical service centre. Greenlux was engaged to provide a lighting solution that not only met Tesla’s sleek architectural aesthetic but also satisfied the rigorous technical requirements of a high-performance workshop.
The Brief: Clarity and Intensity
The project demanded a dual-purpose lighting strategy. The showroom required an inviting, sophisticated atmosphere to showcase vehicle design, while the service and paint departments had far more demanding needs.
For the mechanical and paint bays, Tesla required high-intensity task lighting. To ensure flawless paint finishing and precise mechanical work, the lighting levels needed to reach an average of 700 to 800 lux. This level of illumination is critical for identifying minor surface imperfections and ensuring safety during intricate repairs.
The Solution: Power Meets Precision
Greenlux delivered a high-output scheme using a blend of architectural and industrial-grade fixtures:
- The Showroom & Lounges: To create a seamless journey, we installed the CHAIN GLS5470 Linear Profile. Suspended in continuous runs of up to 18 metres, these profiles provide a modern, directional glow that highlights the “flow” of the space. This was complemented by DIAMOND and VEGAS SERIES downlights, providing high-CRI illumination for accurate colour representation.
- The Service Workshop: To achieve the required 800 lux intensity, we deployed the KASA Smart Series LED High Bay. Known for their exceptional luminous efficacy, these fixtures were strategically positioned to eliminate shadows and provide a “daylight” environment for technicians.
- The Technical Touch: In consultation areas, the COZ 02 Suspended Surface Fittings added a refined, cylindrical aesthetic, bridging the gap between the industrial workshop and the premium customer zones.
Products Used
- KASA Smart Series LED High Bay: The powerhouse of the workshop, delivering the 700-800 lux required for high-precision mechanical and paint tasks with smart-ready controls for energy efficiency.
- CHAIN GLS5470 Linear Profile: Sleek, continuous linear runs (up to 18m) that define the showroom’s architectural signature.
- DIAMOND & VEGAS SERIES Downlights: Precision recessed lighting used to highlight vehicle contours and ensure customer comfort.
- COZ 02 Suspended Surface Fitting: Designer cylinder pendants providing focused task lighting in customer-facing service points.
The Result
The Tesla Nunawading site successfully balances the “theatre” of retail with the “laboratory” of a service centre. By achieving an average of 800 lux in the technical zones, Greenlux ensured that Tesla’s technicians have the visibility required for the world’s most advanced electric vehicles, all while maintaining a sustainable, low-glare environment.
